—can I still submit?

Our three-minute guideline is designed to keep the festival concise and focused. If your film runs slightly over (for example, 3:30–3:45), that’s absolutely fine.

If your piece is significantly longer, we ask that you select a three-minute excerpt that can stand on its own—something that captures the heart of the story, reflects strong storytelling, and centers intimacy.

When submitting through FilmFreeway, please note it as a “scene from a longer work.”

If editing an excerpt isn’t possible, you may submit the full film and clearly indicate the start time of the three-minute section you’d like us to consider.

What qualifies as intimacy?

Intimacy in storytelling can take many forms—romantic, platonic, familial, erotic, spiritual, or emotional.

It might involve physical touch, but it doesn’t have to. What matters is the depth of connection between characters—how trust, vulnerability, longing, power, or tenderness are explored through performance, dialogue, subtext, or visual language.

My film doesn’t have sex—does it still qualify?

Absolutely. FLICKER is not only about sexual content—it’s about connection.

Some of the most powerful depictions of intimacy are entirely non-sexual. If your film explores meaningful closeness—whether between lovers, friends, strangers, birth, death, family members, or even within the self—it belongs here.

We strongly encourage it. Working with an Intimacy Coordinator—even on a short or excerpt—helps ensure the safety, authenticity, and depth of the intimate moments portrayed.

If you didn’t use an IC originally, that doesn’t disqualify your submission. But if you’re planning to create something new, consider collaborating with an IC. We’re happy to connect you with qualified professionals.

Yes! We welcome all genres and formats: narrative, doc, animation, experimental, hybrid, AI-generated, even branded content.

If your work is under 3 minutes and explores human connection with intention and artistry, it’s a fit.
